These NY directors have had a major impact on the movie industry. They’ve made some of the most influential movies of all time and their movies are wildly popular around the world. But they also have a big impact in New York, where their multiple movies were shot.
#1 Martin Scorsese
He’s one of the most respected filmmakers in the world. His movie works have grabbed many prizes and are considered classics. He is a commendatore, filmmaker, screenwriter, as well as an artist. He has made many movies that have been appointed for Best Picture.
#2 Woody Allen
His parents were Jewish immigrants from Europe who had worked as bookkeepers and ran a small business. As a result, they had strict rules about what their son could do and watch on television. After graduating from high school at age 16, Allen attended New York University for two years before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a standup comedian.
#3 Spike Lee
Spike Lee is a movie commendatore, producer, and actor. Ne’s most noted for his movies about racial politics and identity, which have been seen as offering the black perspective on multicultural race relations in the United States. For his job on these movies he has obtained multiple accolades plus an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay (Malcolm X).
He produced some famous comedies between 1988-1994. In more recent years he has made two documentaries about sports: When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts (2006) which documents Hurricane Katrina’s impact on New Orleans and its residents; as well as Kobe Doin’ Work (2009) which highlights NBA star Kobe Bryant’s rise to fame.
#4 Darren Aronofsky
The Wrestler (2008) marked Aronofsky’s return to directing after taking some time off to focus on writing Black Swan (2010). The wrestler’s tale is one that many will recognize from its movie counterpart: Mickey Rourke plays Randy “The Ram” Robinson who tries desperately to hold onto his glory days despite being past it physically due to injuries sustained throughout his career as well as some hard life experiences like losing custody of his daughter due to drug problems when she was young.’

After graduating he moved to New York City with his wife Jane Lin and their three children to start an acting career there but soon realized that it wasn’t his cup of tea so decided instead to try directing after being invited by a classmate from school who had become an assistant commendatore at The Merchant Ivory Production Company when she went back home after graduation so she could help him find work as an actor but instead ended up introducing him into her circle which included other filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese.

He’s a movie commendatore, screenwriter and filmmaker who was born in New York. He has directed more than 20 feature films including Wall Street. He grabbed an Academy Award for Best Commendatore for Platoon in 1987, along with Golden Globe Awards for Best Screenplay and Best Director for JFK in 1991. He also grabbed 2 Academy Award nominations in 1989 and 1990. Stone made his 1st short movie The Battle of Love’s Return which he later remade into Seizure: A Love Story in 1974 starring Dennis Hopper in 1962.
